Facilities

Recreation Building: Our Recreation Building is located at the corner of  Church Road and Alger Smith Road. The building is handicappped accessible, available for meetings and can be rented for private family get-togethers or social occasions.  It has a meeting and assembly area to hold up to 40 people.  Conference tables, chairs and a white board are available for meetings.  The kitchen is equipped with a sink, electric range, coffee maker, refrigerator, silverware, basic cooking utensils,  coffee cups and cleaning supplies. The restroom is accessed from the main entrance area.

Fields: The Oden Alreck Baseball and Soccer fields are located next to the recreation building. The baseball field has a backstop and bases. The soccer field has two goals with nets. These regulation-sized goals are not set at the regulation distance but can provide great recreation none-the-less.

Basketball Court: At the far end of the baseball field, along Alger Smith Road, this non-regulation outside court has two goals, asphalt topping and is lighted for evening play. Bring your own ball and have a game or just shoot some hoops.

Playground: The Peterson Park playground is located on the corner of Church Road and Third Ave. It offers picnic tables, swings, slides, and other playground equipment.

Tennis Court: The John Geist Tennis Court, just up Church Road from Peterson Park, is a regulation tennis court with an asphalt surface surrounded by a chain link enclosure. The court sports a wind screen for protection from the occasional nor’easter and is lit with metal halide lighting for evening play.

Ice Rink: Each winter by Christmas, weather permitting, we put in an ice rink next to the Recreation Building. The Recreation Building entrance serves as a warming house with benches where you can put on your skates and come in to warm up. Two moveable hockey goals allow for informal games on a portion of the ice.  The rink is open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Metal Halide lighting provides plenty of light to ward off the darkest of winter nights. Come join the community for winter fun on the ice!

Beach Access: The Recreation Council maintains access to a wonderful pebbled beach on Lake Superior next to the Knife River Marina.  Access is off of Marina Road and parking is available adjacent to the beach. Come down for a picnic, enjoy a bonfire, skip rocks, hunt for agates, launch a kayak or simply take a walk down the beach. There are no life guards on duty and the water is usually quite cool. Swimming is at your own risk.
