The members of the Knife River Recreation Council (KRRC) are people who live in, around or are visitors to Knife River. The Council’s purpose is, as stated in its by-laws, “To develop and maintain recreational facilities and opportunities serving the residents of Knife River.” The KRRC provides the Knife River area with recreational resources for all ages. Funding for KRRC activities and maintenance of its facilities comes from membership fees, tax-deductible donations, community fundraisers and allocations from the Lake County Recreation Board.
Annual membership fees are $25 for families and $15 for individuals. Your membership qualifies you for a reduced rental rate ($25) of the Recreation building as well as supporting:
- free summer recreation programs for kids,
- community interest programs for all ages
- community celebrations such as Fall Fest, and
recreational facilities such as:
- the John Geist Tennis Court,
- the Peterson Park playground,
- the Oden Alreck Field,
- the winter ice rink, and
- KRRC’s Recreation Building.
If you, your children or grandchildren enjoy the KRRC’s recreation programs, facilities and events, please join the families and individuals who are presently members of the KRRC.
What Keeps Us Going:
We are funded through your memberships, donations, KRRC fundraisers, recreation funds from Lake County, and the time and energy contributions of many community volunteers. Because Knife River is not an incorporated township or municipality, we do not have tax supported bricks and mortar facilities or properties. This requires an extra amount of hands-on volunteer effort to raise the funds needed to cover insurance (averaging $5000 yearly), operating costs and to provide the labor that keeps our properties intact. Your annual membership and the generous tax-deductible donations from individuals that we receive are vital.
Our membership year begins in March of each year. Watch for your March newsletter or access our membership form on line to join. Please indicate your volunteer interest on the form and a committee member will contact you to plan the volunteer opportunity that fits your interests and talents.
Our KRRC Board meetings are open to the public and are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month at the Recreation Building.
Call any Board Member, or attend a meeting (3rd Thursday of the month) to share your ideas. Your help is greatly appreciated!
