Summer
Summer Solstice Run June 25, 2011! Register now!
Summer Solstice Walk/Run: Our annual 5K run and 2 mile walk begins and ends at the Recreation Center. The challenging course takes you along the Knife River Trail, and through the townsite. We give awards for many age categories and all registered participants receive a great 2011 version of our sun-design T-shirt. Our event takes place the Saturday following Grandma’s marathon and the first Saturday after the Summer Solstice.
Tennis
Tennis-open hours: Knife River Recreation Center has a wonderful regulation size tennis court located just beyond Peterson Park on Church Road. The tennis court is well maintained and lit for night-time play. First come, first serve.
Youth Tennis: The KRRC has kid-sized rackets available if parents want to start teaching the fundamentals. We also have some adult-sized rackets and balls available. Call Scott at 834-0727 if you’d like to check out tennis equipment.
Tennis Tuesdays: 6:00 p.m. Adults-only tennis with some informal instruction available.
Rec Center and Outdoor Field Activities
Sports for Kids of All Ages: Every Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. this summer, come on down to the Recreation Center for games and fun for all ages. Depending on the ages and abilities, the group will play soccer, softball, basketball, kick-ball and more. Dean Korri will supervise and organize the activities. Watch our calendar page for the specific June start date.
Summer Softball Nights at the Rec Center: Dig out those old softball mitts from the box in your attic! At 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday night starting June 1st, you are invited to come to Alreck Field for a fun and friendly game of softball. All ages and both genders are welcome–the more the merrier! The only prerequisite is a desire to have some good old-fashioned community fun!
Summer Crafts and Recreation for Children: A great opportunity for children 4-12 to have creative fun. The Summer Recreation program includes supervised craft projects, recreation and outdoor games and snacks. The program is offered to children ages 4-12. The 2011 program will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the following dates:
Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22 and
Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28.
Peterson Park: Our park is located next to the tennis court. The park has playground equipment, swings, picnic tables and shady trees. Come to play and relax.
Fall
Knife River Community Fall Fest: The KRRC’s third Fall Fest will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2011. This event brings the community together to enjoy a hearty fall main course provided by the Rec Council with potluck desserts and side dishes. Aside from getting to know your neighbors (old and new) the entertainment each year is a slide show of “Old Knife River” photos. Check our calendar closer to the date for the exact start time, but set aside the day now for a great time!
Winter
Knife River Christmas Tour of Homes:
On December 10, 2011, the KRRC will hold our annual Christmas Tour of Homes featuring three scenic Knife River area homes decorated for the holiday season. The festivities begin at the Rec Center for Tour tickets, hot cider, coffee and cookies while you await your van transportation to the three selected homes for the year. This event is a favorite holiday starter for many people from all around the area with some from even more distant locations. Travel up the Scenic Highway to step into a country Christmas world with the smell of freshly-cut greens adorning the homes you visit in this picturesque Lake Superior fishing village.
Ice skating: Join community members for winter fun on our ice rink. Weather permitting, the ice is ready in December for family skating, pick-up hockey games and boot hockey on Saturday nights. Volunteers flood and maintain the rink. The Recreation Center is open for warming up and changing into your skates.
KRRC Community Interest Programs: Watch the calendar for the next set of Community Interest Programs sponsored by the Rec Council. Once a month at 7:00 p.m. late fall through spring, our program committee arranges an evening program of interest to people in our area and puts on the coffee pot and goodies to warm up those who brave the sometimes daunting elements to attend. A great way to keep in touch with neighbors and friends.
